3D tab deactivated for a wing geometry

Hi

I have a .iges file of a wing geometry which I imported into geometry module. Then, I switched to mesh module to create a mesh. When I try to create a mesh, 3D tab is disabled for some reason. Only 2D, 1D and 0D are available even though shape is 3D.

I have attached the iges file with this post, any help would be appreciated!

Pavan.

Hi,

iges only supports faces. Moreover, a face is missing to close the shell (and define a solid from it).

Find in attachment the study with the shape fixed.

Hi Christophe

Thanks for the clarification! Can you describe how you closed the geometry?

You have a set of tools to accomplish this in the geometry module, called repair. Where you can close holes, delete surface etc. Once you closed your geometry, you can build a solid from it.

To create the new face:

  • select the 3 edges from the other faces
  • create a wire from them
  • create a face from the wire

To create the solid:

  • create a shell with the new face and the other faces
  • create a solid from the shell.

Hi Christophe

Thanks for your reply! I will look into the operations you mentioned.
